Ever since Fantastic Four opened to critical yawns but decent box office, Fox and Marvel have been hard at work on crafting a sequel.
The studio has now narrowed their choice down to two scripts – on by Don Payne (who wrote the new Uma Thurman comedy My Super Ex Girlfriend) and X2 contributor Mark Frost.
Despite rumours that Payne’s script had been chosen, there’s still no official confirmation. But more exciting than studio executives throwing darts at a board to decide (we’re guessing they’re taking a little more care than that, but it’s a fun visual) is the news that Payne’s entry contains the Silver Surfer. Yes, the metallic galactic wave rider has long been bubbling away as a prospective Marvel movie, but Fox has steered clear because the character would require either a mega budget effects team or lots and lots of silver paint. And the second idea is just silly.
Now it looks like we might finally get to see ol’ shiny on the screen. But does this mean that planet-eating Galactus, whom the Surfer serves, will also make an appearance. With Julian McMahon not so keen to don the Doom outfit again, might the world-gobbler make a decent big bad for the Four? We’ll see…
