‘Twas the month before Christmas, and all through the Hollywood Hills, the producers were trying to think of more ways they could squeeze money from the franchise stockings.
All right, so we’re being cynical but really: a Shrek Christmas special TV show? Honestly?
It’s true. Shrek The Halls has been commissioned by US TV network ABC for December 2007, which means we can expect it on TV or DVD shortly after. It’ll pick up the story threads from the finale of Shrek The Third and features the usual vocal suspects.
"Steve (McPherson, head of ABC) and I were together one day, and he mentioned to me that he was trying to find a new Christmas special," DreamWorks Animation boss Jeffrey Katzenberg told Variety. "They had great success last Christmas with their holiday-themed specials. So I brainstormed with our team, and we came back to him with the idea of Shrek The Halls."
The two companies are hoping this will become a firm fixture in American Xmas telly schedules.
