A Hollywood adaptation of seminal manga Lone Wolf And Cub has been wandering the wilds of development limbo for years now, and more recently Justin Lin was attached to produce and potentially direct. He's tracked down a writer for the film: Seven veteran Andrew Kevin Walker.

Paramount, which has been interested in the the film since at least 2003, is once again backing Lone Wolf, with Lin still shepherding. Walker will handle the latest cine-version of the story originally created in 1970 by Koike Kazuo and Goseki Kojima.

The plot follows a shogun's executioner named Itto Ogami, who us out for revenge after his wife and the rest of his house bar his infant son is murdered. As the years pass, he trains the boy to become a fierce warrior and the pair travels the country as assassins for hire, while also hunting the people who killed their family.

It's a positive step forward for a movie that has long seemed just out of reach...
