Many would bet that the teens-in-peril genre is risking falling flat on its pot-marked face. The Scream 3 franchise are betting on exactly the opposite. Hollywood trade papers have recently reported that Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette - survivors of the first two flicks (Scream and Scream 2) - are now all expected to be on board for Scream 3, with production scheduled to start in May. Original director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson are also both back on the team - with a December release in the balance. The new flick will track the post-collegiate life of Campbell's oft-terrorised Sidney Prescott, who's now hauled her troubled self off to the glitzy Hollywood, in pursuit of - of all things - an acting career. Arquette's dim-witted Deputy Dewey and Cox's ambitious TV reporter Gale Weathers will also work their way into the formula. Few can argue with the success of the original Scream released in 1996, which grossed more than $100 million. Nor the second which performed equally as well upon its release in 1997. But as for the third in what's been an up and down start to the box office year, we'll just have to wait and see.
Scream. . . again. It’s Scream 3.
