Scorsese Strikes A Paramount Deal

Riding high with the success of The Departed, Martin Scorsese has struck a lucrative first-look deal with Paramount.

In return for the studio giving him cash to run his office ($2.5 million a year should buy a lot of eyebrow gel), Scorsese will give the studio and its Vantage arm first dibs on all projects he directs or produces, be they movies, direct-to-DVD films, documentaries and TV.

He’s currently working on a Rolling Stones documentary and is also trying to convince the studio to flash the greenlight on his long nurtured adaptation of the Japanese period novel Silence. While the deal allows him to pimp himself elsewhere, Paramount has the right to co-produce and co-distribute anything he makes for the next four years.

“I am looking forward to working with him at Paramount, a studio rich in cinematic history and responsible for making some of my favourite films: Sunset Boulevard, Shane and The Heiress, among others,” said the director in a statement. What, no love for Jackass: The Movie?
