Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio may have a way to go before they match Scorsese and De Niro's eight co-projects, but they're well on their way, having just announced their fourth film together.
DiCaprio will star for Scorsese in Shutter Island, based on Dennis Lehane's 1954-set novel about a US Marshall hunting for a murderess who's escaped from Shutter Island mental facility during a hurricane.
There's a very pleasing simplicity to that set up. The pair's previous collaborations have been very intense, very plot heavy pieces. They were all terrific, but we really like the idea of just DiCaprio, a giant storm and a big ol' crazy lady with nowhere to run, and all the thrilling combinations they might make. It puts us in mind of Cape Fear a little and that's a good thing.
Shutter Island is set to shoot next March, with the script being written by Laeta Kaolgridis (Pathfinder?!).
