Anthony Hopkins and Nicole Kidman will soon be appearing together in a tale of scandal and sordid secrets, when they team up for an adaptation of Philip Roth's novel The Human Strain, reports Variety. Adapted by Sommersby scribe Nicholas Myers for director Robert Benton, the film is set against the backdrop of the Clinton impeachment trial and features Hopkins as an ageing classics professor who is forced to retire when his colleagues brand him a racist. While unfounded, the accusations lead to an unearthing of his past and the revelation of secrets kept for fifty years, including an elicit affair with a 34-year-old cleaning woman. Filming is due to begin in March 2002.
