The Lighthouse

Robert Eggers launched himself on the psychological horror scene in 2015 with The Witch, combining period detail and sheer, creeping dread. He's back, isolating Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe in The Lighthouse and watching as their characters slowly descend into madness. Check out the new trailer below.

Set on a remote New England island at the turn of the 19th century, the story finds Ephraim Winslow (Pattinson) and Thomas Wake (Dafoe) as they squabble, spin stories and, in the new trailer, descend into shouting "what?!" at each other.

There's little trust here, and the claustrophobic feeling is heightened by the black and white cinematography and the 1.19:1 aspect ratio.

The Lighthouse has been getting solid reviews from its festival screenings, and it finally has a release date in the UK, arriving here on 17 January.
