If you're looking to turn a video game property into a movie, it really does help to hire someone coming off a big hit. Which explains why Netflix is handing cult game title Beyond Good & Evil to Detective Pikachu director Rob Letterman.

The man who also made Goosebumps is on board to make the live-action/hybrid adaptation of the game, which is now on the hunt for scriptwriters. Beyond takes place in the 25th century on a remote mining planet that is under alien attack. The military rulers that promised to defend the population may be in league with the invaders. In this environment, a young photojournalist named Jade is recruited to be part of an underground resistance movement.

Launched in 2003, it wasn't exactly a big financial success, despite landing on a Game of the Year list. Though it had been planned to spur a trilogy, that never happened. It still gained a following and Ubisoft announced a prequel in 2017, which has yet to materialise. Maybe it will if the film is a hit on the streaming service...
