"If you were any thinner, you wouldn't exist," says Jennifer Jason Leigh to Christian Bale in The Machinist, and boy she isn't kidding. An emaciated Bale looks one missed meal away from the grave in his latest film, which sees him play a man dying of insomnia. Bale is Trevor Reznik (not to be confused with Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor) a man who works in a machine shop and hasn't slept in a very, very, very long time. Surfing the cusp between sanity and madness, Reznik is quite clearly not at the top of his game and, given where he works, the condition is an industrial accident waiting to happen. But there may be more to Reznik's insomnia than meets the eye and that's when things get slightly strange. This looks sufficiently weird to go straight to the top of our 'ones to watch out for' list and if the trailer's that unnerving then the film itself will be well worth a look. We're a bit concerned about Bale though, someone should fetch him a sandwich. Watch the trailer here.
