Pun alert! Former restaurant mogul Gene Bicknell is aiming for a pizza the movie action when he supplies the dough to cook up some film projects. Okay, we’re finished with the gags. For now.

The Pizza Hut moneybag is putting serious money into developing new films with producer Dan Halsted – and the first to roll out of their kitchen will be an untitled religious-themed drama written by Sarah Kernochan.

The plot follows a young woman who has a mysterious, mystical experience that ends up putting her in opposition to the Catholic Church and her fellow townspeople. It’ll be a break from Kernochan’s previous work – she’s written the likes of What Lies Beneath and the decidedly non-religious 9 ½ weeks.
