Ready For Elvis Frankenstein?

From the author behind zombie Beatles

Ready For Elvis Frankenstein?

Like a freakish blend of body parts brought back to life by nature’s powerful spark and man’s obsession with technology, the whole genre mash-up thing is now loose and metaphorically smashing whole villages as it storms towards the local cinema. Which is really just a longwinded way of saying that Alan Goldsher, the man responsible for turning the Beatles into zombies in comic novel **Paul Is Undead, is at it again for Frankenstein Has Left The Building.

"Basically, instead of doing what I did with Paul Is Undead - taking the Beatles myth and applying zombie mythology on top of that - I am taking Frankenstein the book and rewriting it with Elvis Presley as the creature," Goldsher tells MTV. "The book takes place in the 1960s. It's still the same format as the original tale, which is Dr Frankenstein is relating the story to the ostensible narrator."

According to the writer, he’s digging a little deeper into the iconography of both characters. "There's a big overlap with the Frankenstein story and the Elvis Presley story in that they're both fabricated entities. Frankenstein's creature is made from parts and Elvis was put together by really intelligent record label people. It could be argued that he was the first prefab artist. And then, both the creature and Elvis spent their lives looking for love and acceptance."

Frankenstein’s monster, of course, also went through his Vegas jumpsuit phase.

For now, the story is in the early, twitching stages of creation, and the film rights have yet to be snapped up, unlike Paul. But if Pride & Prejudice & Zombies succeeds at the box office, expect the bidding war to heat up quickly. Fire bad! Tree pretty! Thankyouverymuch!
