Call it the Brokeback Mountain effect. Producer Andrew Lang has grabbed up the rights to Peter Lefcourt’s novel The Dreyfus Affair: A Love Story.
The plot in question concerns a married baseball player who falls in love with a fellow player. When word of their romance gets out, scandal inevitably follows. This is not the first time the book has been through the Hollywood development mill, but now with Brokeback leading the way, it has a good chance of finally being made.
“The success of Brokeback Mountain has changed the zeitgeist, and hopefully the business realises that people will walk into a cinema even if two guys might be kissing, and actors realize it's not career suicide to kiss another man," Lefcourt told Variety. No director or cast have been announced yet.
