Last seen in The Favourite (and Oscar nominated for her work), Rachel Weisz has zeroed in on a new film to star in. Weisz will also produce the adaptation of Max Porter's novel Lanny.

The book is set in a village 60 miles outside of London. It's your typical small community, with the neighbours in each others' lives and lots of history. One darker element of the place is Dead Papa Toothwort, a figure that local schoolchildren used to draw with strange green tendrils growing from his mouth. But now this seeming folklore figure has emerged into reality, and he's listening and waiting for someone to find him.

Enter Lanny, mischievous, enchanting boy whose parents have recently made the village their home. Soon the authorities are wrapped up in a missing persons case and the village will never be the same.

There's no writer or director attached to this one just yet, and we don't yet know what role Weisz will take, but it has the backing of BBC Films and production company The Bureau.
