The figures are in for the British box office, and sitting at the top of the field once again (for the third week running) is Pride And Prejudice. Joe Wright's adaptation of Jane Austen's most famous work has now racked up a very comfortable £9,433,853 since its debut, holding fast against three of this weeks bigger hitting openers – David Cronenberg's A History Of Violence did very well to take second place with £1,135,345, followed by Goal!, with £857,253. Four Brothers outdid Land Of The Dead (now in its second week of release), taking £789,718 and £464,490 respectively.

In the lower half of the table, The 40 Year Old Virgin remained present for the fifth consecutive week, taking £441,778, putting its running total at £6,766,276. Adam Sandler is still getting bums on seats with The Longest Yard, which this week took £419,635, ahead of Revolver, which brought in £304,364. Encouraging news for fans of man-whore place is Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, still wringing movies, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigalo took £280,414 (despite only showing on 160 screens, giving it a healthy £1,753 per screen average). Hanging on in tenth the last drops of goodness from the family audience ten weeks after its opening.
