Guillermo del Toro is a man on a mission. And no, we don’t mean the mission he’s on to revampThe Haunted Mansion. Or the other several thousand projects he has currently on the go. Nope, he turned up at the Comic-Con panel for Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, a horror movie he’s co-written and produced with yet more pipeline info: his take on Pinocchio will feature music from Nick Cave
We’ve already heard that this will be a distinctly darker take on the puppet lad, with less of the Disney-fied charm and more of the real mischief afoot. And children’s’ book legend Gris Grimly is already co-directing the movie, which will utilise stop-motion.
The Cave music announcement was fresh, but that was just the start of del Toro’s series of revelations.
Among the others? He’s committed to bringing his Frankenstein pic to life. **Cronos **will be emerging blinking into the light on shiny Criterion Collection Blu-ray next year. Oh, and he wants to tackle something with vampires. Fighting masked Mexican wrestlers. With no post-modern snark.
Finally, he is close to announcing his next directorial project now he’s finally left Hobbiton, which is apparently a horror film he wants to kick off shooting in May. There’s no stopping the man…
