Holy crap, it's the first shock of the awards season! It was a surprise when we found out it was nominated, but Little Miss Sunshine has this morning raised more than one eyebrow around Empire Towers, when it was announced as the winner of the Producer's Guild of America's best film award.

Why? Because it's competition was Babel, Dreamgirls, The Departed, and The Queen, that's why, and its this award which has often in the past lined up with the Oscar for Best Picture. It's not a dead cert - The Aviator was the most recent misser-out - but winners of both over the last 10 years include Brokeback Mountain, Return Of The King, Chicago, Gladiator, American Beauty and Titanic.

It's going to be very interesting to see how this little comedy from Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris fares tomorrow at the announcement of the Academy Award nominees. Stay tuned.
