The sticky issues of residuals have been avoided for the moment, but it seems an agreement is in the works. The tentative pact between the performers unions SAG and AFTRA with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers provides for a 3 per cent increase in minimum scale beginning July 1 and 3.5 per cent increases in each of the following two years. Further discussions concerning the residuals from foreign broadcasts and domestic cable will be resumed after an industry-wide study is completed. Thus the first performers strike for 18 years has been averted. Phew!
