Looks like Amazon.com’s attempt to slowly conquer the world has taken its next step. The online store has just optioned the film rights to its first book.

Amazon has nabbed The Stolen Child, by Keith Donahue, a tale of a 7-year-old snatched by forest creatures that leave a look-alike in his place. The plot then tracks the changeling’s attempts to live with his new family and the original child’s adventures with a pack of wild kids.

"We are always trying to innovate, based on listening to customers and the things they're passionate about," Amazon’s director of merchandising Laura Porco told Variety. "This was a book we passed around to our editorial and merchandising teams. Everybody was excited by Keith's voice and felt this could be a great movie."

The next step will be to find a director and seek out a studio to make the film.
