The character that made learning French fun, Tintin, is soon to bring his language-spanning antics to Hollywood in a live-action feature. Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy have picked up the rights for Dreamworks and plan to produce the screen adventures of the Belgian character and his canine companion. Making his debut in 1929 as a comic strip in newspaper, Le Petit Vingtieme, the improbably coifed youth has had his adventures translated into more than 50 languages and can be found littering the modern language classes of junior schools everywhere. An able young reporter, Tintin and his dog Snowy pass the time by investigating mysteries and imperilling themselves on a fairly regular basis. Far exceeding the career-highs of most tired old hacks, Tintin has seen his journalistic exploits lead him to Tibet, the Land of Black Gold and the moon. Aided by his mentor, Captain Haddock, Professor Cuthbert Calculus and all manner of other supporting characters, the windswept youth has previously appeared in animated form but his latest outing will be an entirely live-action affair. Neither director nor cast have been snagged as yet.
