Writers Brett Gursky and Scott Herbst have sold their time-travel themed script, The Old College Try, to GigaPix Studios and Vanguard Entertainment Group.
Gursky will direct the film itself, which revolves around a thirtysomething commitment-phobe who finds himself transported back in time to his old college, Syracuse University. There, he discovers that he can change the course of his romantic destiny… (Altogether now, ooooooh!)
If you’re thinking, ‘hey, that’s just like Peggy Sue Got Married, only with testicles!’ then fear not – that’s the intention, apparently. Besides, the shadow of Back To The Future also looms large over this one, so our eyes will be fixed firmly on Gursky and Herbst to see what new and original moves they’re going to bring to a potentially much overworked sub-genre.
And if you’re wondering why you haven’t heard of the two companies backing this new comedy, we’ll fill you in: it’s an alliance overseen by Family Guy producer, David Pritchard, which aims to make movies in the $10-25 million budget range. We wish them well with The Old College Try. We’d travel forward in time to find out how it does, ultimately, but our flux capacitor is on the fritz.
