Normally, we like to keep news of celebrity births, marriages and deaths to our brand spanking new and shiny Red Carpet section (check it out here), but we couldn’t let this pass un-noticed.
For congratulations are due to one of our favourite actors, Nicolas Cage, who’s celebrating the birth of his second son – his first with his third wife, Alice Kim Cage. So far, so unremarkable, until you consider that the wee bairn has been dubbed… Kal-el Coppola Cage.
In other words, he’s been endowed with Superman’s real name.
Frankly, this is hardly surprising – Cage is a lifelong diehard comic book fan, who stars in Mark Steven Johnson’s adaptation of Marvel’s Ghost Rider, due out next year. The 41 year-old was actually slated at one point in the mid-90s to play Superman/Kal-el in Tim Burton’s Superman Lives, but that project fell apart. Good to see he’s still kept a torch burning for the Man of Steel.
Kal-el Coppola (that part comes, of course, from Cage’s birth surname) was born on Monday in New York City. Cage’s publicist issued a statement relating to all three Cages: “They are happy and healthy, and it’s quite lovely.” Awww…
