Given the 2014 publication and subsequent bestselling success of Donna Tartt's novel The Goldfinch, it has perhaps taken longer than expected for the book to make it through the Hollywood development process. But it'll be on our screens this year boasting an all-star cast, and the new trailer has arrived.

The film follows the story of Theodore "Theo" Decker, who is 13 years old when his mother is killed in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The tragedy changes the course of his life, sending him on a stirring odyssey of grief and guilt, reinvention and redemption, and even love. Through it all, he holds on to one tangible piece of hope from that terrible day... a painting of a tiny bird chained to its perch. The Goldfinch.

With Oakes Fegley playing the younger Theo before Ansel Elgort takes over, the cast for Brooklyn director John Crowley's latest also includes Nicole Kidman, Aneurin Barnard, Finn Wolfhard, Sarah Paulson, Luke Wilson and Jeffrey Wright.

The Goldfinch is due in UK cinemas on 27 September. We covered the first trailer here, and talked to Crowley about it here.
