New Halloween Sequel Reportedly Shooting This Year

Halloween 2018

The sequel-skipping return to the Halloween franchise last year ended up as a hit, earning more than $255 million from a thrifty $10 million budget. So it's perhaps not that much of a surprise that Collider has heard that Universal and Blumhouse are gearing up for another, with Jamie Lee Curtis likely to return as Laurie Strode.

As for behind the scenes, co-writer/director David Gordon Green is also a fair shot to come back, and he'd no doubt work again with Danny McBride. Naturally, the plot is a mystery at this point, though there will be some example of Michael Myers coming back despite seeming to die last time (a post-credits soundtrack of heavy Michael-style breathing suggests otherwise) and more peril for Laurie and her family.

There has been no official word from either Universal or Blumhouse on a potential sequel, but a recent Twitter post by producer Jason Blum, in which he met with Curtis, pointed to movement on that front.

As Collider suggests, the current plan is for production to start this autumn, and for the movie to arrive in October 2020.
