A computerised camera invented to help surgeons could soon bring about the reality of "synthespians," resurrecting dead stars for new roles. Developed by the Turing Institute, in Glasgow, the "whole body camera" is used to create virtual heads of patients to plan complex facial operations. But the developers have realised it will be ideal for capturing three-dimensional details of living doppelgangers to recreate dead stars. Accordingly, the Institute teamed up with the National Film and Television School's media laboratory, Createc. The first version of the camera will go on show next month in London, introduced by a virtual David Bowie.
