Hollywood veteran Peter Hyams has been hurriedly drafted in to take the helm of the latest Schwarzenegger pic after the original director walked out a couple of weeks ago. Beacon Communications acted swiftly to replace Marcus Nispel when he left the >End of Days set, thanks, allegedly, to 'artistic differences'. The music video and commercial helmer was to have made his feature debut on the $100 million supernatural thriller. Several directors were in the running for the job after Nispel left, but Arnie backed Hyams, an old hand at the Hollywood game. Known for action-oriented pics, he last directed the 1997 thriller, The Relic and wrote and directed such films as the 1978 thriller Capricorn One, The Star Chamber and the Sean Connery vehicle, Outland. He also wrote, produced, directed and shot 2010, the 1984 sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey. End of Days is set at the turn of the millennium, when Satan comes to New York City in search of a bride, and a former cop (Schwarzenegger) who heads an elite security firm is the only person who can stop the angel of darkness from destroying the world.
