Getting your hot new script idea to the right people has always been something of a difficult proposition. Sending it by post? Straight in the bin. Approaching a producer while he’s wooing some buxom young starlet in a restaurant? You’ll never work in this town again. Now, unknown first-time French screenwriter Philip Devereaux has finally cracked it. Somehow, he got hold of producer Larry Thompson’s email address and sent him the pitch to his technological thriller Murder.com. No sooner had Thompson recovered from wondering how the Gallic 23-year-old had found him, than he had secured the film and television rights to the movie for a six-figure sum, without even meeting its creator or discussing the story further. The film centres around a French serial killer whose weapon is a killer virus. He picks and torments his victims via email. Although no definite date has been set for the movie, Thompson immediately flew to France to meet with the ingenious writer in person.
