MTV's film division has picked up the feature film remake rights to the camp ABC TV series, 'Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp'. The short-lived Saturday morning show which ran for just two years from 1970-72, featured a cast made up entirely of actual primates - much like the bunch used for a certain UK tea brand. With his sidekick Mata Hairi, Lance deadpanned his way through plots peppered with characters named Professor Darwin, Baron von Butcher and Ali Assa Seen - all of whom were spurred on by musical numbers from the all-chimp rock band, the Evolution Revolution. MTV Films clinched the deal through its discretionary fund at sister company Paramount Pictures. It will produce the project with Disney-based producer Barry Mendel who commented of the project, "We're trying to make an exciting, funny spy movie, and we have great characters and a theme song, too."
