Lord of The Rings lead the pack when the Oscar nominations were announced but at last night's London Film Critics Circle Awards, it was Moulin Rouge that had its praises sung. Nicole Kidman walked away with the Best Actress award while co-star Ewan McGregor joined her in the winners box with a gong for Best British Actor. Crowning the film's achievements for the night, Moulin Rouge was also named Film of The Year. Hefting Britain's acting standard were Dame Judi Dench and Helen Mirren, who took Best British Actress and Best British Supporting Actress respectively. Former Knight's Tale herald Paul Bettany was awarded Best British Supporting Actor for his part in A Beautiful Mind while Colin Farrell landed Best British Newcomer. Also sporting smiles were the Bridget Jones writing team, who were given Best British Screenwriters and Billy Bob Thornton who was honoured with Best Actor. Robert Altman's Gosford Park was dubbed Best British Film of The Year while Jean Pierre Jeunet's Amelie predictably received a nod for Best Foreign Film.
