Despite assurances from the organisers that attending reporters would not be allowed to dig for answers, Charlton Heston skipped a Hollywood awards ceremony last week after pressure was mounting on him following the Columbine High School killings. Flack came in the form of public outcry over Heston's presidency of the National Rifle Association, which found a hail of enemy fire following last week's tragedy in Colorado. "He felt there was too much heat," said David Robman, president of the Society of Operating Cameramen (SOC), which held its annual dinner Sunday at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Marina del Rey. Robman stated that he'd received a call from Heston's assistant two days after last week's school massacre in Littleton, Colorado. "She said the press is asking him questions, and he has no answers."
