Weinstein brothers warn of potential protests

Kevin Smith, director of cult favourites Clerks, Mallrats and Chasing Amy, is having a devil of a time with his new film, Dogma. The film has failed to pick up a distributor despite the backing of the influential Weinstein brothers, who run Miramax Films, plus an outing at Cannes a few weeks ago. The Weinsteins have taken the unusual step of buying the film rights from their parent company, Disney, for $10m. This will allow them to seek independent distribution
