Paul McGuigan, who directed Wicker Park and whose latest film, Lucky Number Slevin just debuted at Sundance, has been hired to helm the big-screen version of The Equalizer.

The show – which starred Edward Woodward as an urban vigilante – was one the Scottish director was fully aware of. “Growing up in Scotland, there were few channels and good shows to watch, and this was one that penetrated my psyche," McGuigan told Variety.

No cast has been announced, but McGuigan added that he didn’t want to make the title character younger. Hopefully that means Park and Slevin star Josh Harnett won't be donning the trenchcoat...
