Marvel did not intend to get shown up by its Disney stablemates at the company's big investor day announcement session. And indeed, it came to play with trailers, first looks and news on a raft of new shows, including Ironheart, Armor Wars and Secret Invasion.

Ironheart, which had been rumoured in the past, will follows the adventures of genius young inventor Riri Williams (to be played by If Beale Street Could Talk's Dominique Thorne), who has come up with the most advanced suit of armour since Tony Stark's Iron Man getup.

Talking of Stark, his worst fears will be coming true in Armor Wars, in which his tech falls into the wrong hands. There's no sign of Robert Downey Jr. in this one (probably because it'll be set after Stark's death), but Don Cheadle will be playing James "War Machine" Rhodes in the show.

Secret Invasion, meanwhile, will adapt one of the most famous Marvel comics plot-lines, with a Skrull sect invading all levels of Earth culture. Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn's Talos will be trying to stop them.

Also new? A Guardians Of The Galaxy live-action holiday special, which James Gunn will write and direct at the same time as he shoots Volume 3. It'll launch during Christmas 2022, ahead of the new Guardians film in 2023. And Groot fans will be happy to learn that he'll have his own spin-off series of shorts, I Am Groot, which will feature guest appearances by other characters.

Known series were handed updates, including the fact that Tatiana Maslany is confirmed as Jennifer Walters in She-Hulk, in which Tim Roth will return as The Abomination (from The Incredible Hulk, which we did not expect Marvel to reference meaningfully again) and Bruce Banner himself, Mark Ruffalo, will show up.

Hawkeye's recent addition of Hailee Steinfeld was officially confirmed, while Moon Knight got a brief mention, though nothing was said about Oscar Isaac's casting. We can assume then, that his deal is still being hammered out. Oh, and we got a sizzle reel for Ms. Marvel, which like Hawkeye, is now shooting.

Finally, there was a new trailer for animated anthology What If, featuring alternate universe MCU stories such as Peggy Carter as a super-soldier instead of Steve Rogers.
