Arguably made for the role, Madonna is set to play a cynical tabloid TV reporter in a new romantic comedy. Warner Bros. have shelled out a six-figure sum for the project - inexplicably titled 'Ton 80' from the Yanks interpretation of a treble 20 in Darts - which was born of New York-based screenwriter Andrew Fishman's script. And not to be left out on decision making, Madonna will produce under her Madguy banner. Madonna's character is assigned to hunt down and expose a reclusive female self-help author. However, when she eventually finds her target, she is a he - a very handsome he who practices little of what he preaches via the page. Predictably, Madonna falls head over heels with him and is then placed in the awkward situation of selling him out as a fraud and ruining their relationship, or keeping the peace and ruining her career. Tricky. Last appearing on the big screen in 1996's 'Evita', Madonna's break into the film industry came in 1985 when she starred in 'Desperately Seeking Susan'. Since then, she's been openly slated for her abismal efforts in the less than impressive 'Shanghai Surprise', 'Who's That Girl?' and 'Body of Evidence'.
