MacGruber

MacGruber has evolved from Saturday Night Live-based MacGyver parody sketches through commercially unsuccessful (but hugely underrated) movie adaptation, and is now officially heading back to its small screen roots, this time as a TV series for the Peacock streaming service, with Will Forte returning as the titular character.

The sketches (and film) followed Forte's character, a former special operative called back into action and teamed up with Ryan Phillippe's Piper and old colleague Vicki St. Elmo (Kristen Wiig) to take down the villainous Dieter Von Cunth (Val Kilmer).

Wiig and Phillippe are locking down deals to return, and while Kilmer's character ended up in a very bad way, co-creator Jorma Taccone has hinted that he could still appear. The synopsis for the show is as follows: "After rotting in prison for over a decade, America’s ultimate hero and uber patriot MacGruber is finally released. His mission: to take down a mysterious villain from his past—Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth. With the entire world in the crosshairs, MacGruber must race against time to defeat the forces of evil — only to find that evil… may be lurking within."

Taccone is working on the eight-episode first season as co-writer (with John Solomon) and director, and all being well, the series should shoot either later this year or early next. Boom!
