George Lucas has won his bid to acquire a 23-acre site in the Presidio area of San Francisco. As Empire Online reported a few weeks ago, Lucas plans to use the site to build a state of the art digital arts centre, with a view to housing his companies and providing training for people in the SFX industry. The development will be a campus-like setting housing Industrial Light & Magic, Lucas Arts, Lucas Learning, THX, The George Lucas Foundation and Lucas Online. These companies are currently based in different locations in the San Francisco area and at Skywalker Ranch, Lucas’s current base. The complex will also feature park land and a lagoon. The trust in charge of the Presidio expressed delight at the acquisition. ““The Digital Arts Centre has the ability to enrich the Presidio with imagination and artistic focus, while embracing the research and education missions supported by the trust.”
