George Lucas is nothing if not innovative. He's the creator of the most popular sci-fi movie(s) ever, the brains behind mould-breaking SFX company Industrial Light & Magic, and now he wants to create a school to train the genius technicians of future movies. The director has made a bid for a 213-acre plot of land in the Presidio area of San Francisco, a prime piece of real estate right on the Pacific coast. As well as building a digital training institute, he wants to create a visual effects archive, a 15-acre lawn and a caf which would be open to the public. Lucas’s philanthropic plans may not happen in the spot he’s picked out though, as a local property has designs on the site too – and they want to build a lucrative industrial estate. Use the force, George.
