We're living in scary times right now, but there's always room for horror in entertainment, and HBO has a big series headed our way next month. Lovecraft Country has just put a new trailer online.
Created by Underground's Misha Green, i adapts the 2016 novel by Matt Ruff. The series follows Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he joins up with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father (Michael Kenneth Williams). This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback...
It'll be a fascinating adaptation, and themes will be deep and knotty, especially if the show's producers choose to confront the racism that Lovecraft himself displayed. And given that they include Jordan Peele and JJ Abrams, we'd figure that's a big yes.
Lovecraft Country will be arriving in the States on 16 August, then lands on Sky Atlantic/Now TV the day after. You can watch the series' Comic-Con@Home panel below.
