The first official confirmation of the cast for Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy was released today by New Line productions. Much was made of the fact that all three sections of the triology were to be filmed at the same time. On the eve of filming, Jackson said 'it’s a great thrill to begin actual photography. Filming three films at once has never been done before, in addition to which the project features state-of-the-art special effects, so it was essential to plan everything down to the last detail. We owe Professor Tolkien and his legion of fans worldwide our very best efforts to make these films with the integrity they deserve.' The cast list makes no mention of Sean Connery either to deny or confirm his participation in the film - leaving internet rumours of his involvement free to multiply. The actors they will own to being on set are as follows: Liv Tyler: Arwen Stuart Townsend: Aragorn John Rhys-Davies: Gimli Dominic Monaghan: Merry Sir Ian McKellen: Gandalf Christopher Lee: Saruman Sir Ian Holm: Bilbo Brad Dourif: Wormtongue Orlando Bloom: Legolas Sean Bean: Boromir Sean Astin: Sam Gamgee Elijah Wood: Frodo
