Saw distributors Lionsgate are acting like the seemingly unstoppable metallic marauders they want to buy, storming into the auction for the Terminator franchise rights with a $15 million offer.
This sets the company up as the "stalking horse" bidder, which not only means it's currently the one to beat (and other interested parties would have to stump up $500,000 more than that to be in with chance). Oh, and if they don't win, Lionsgate pockets $750,000 as a "breakup fee." How we wish everyday auctions worked like that.
The closing date for bids is 5th February and the final auction itself will be held five days later by Halcyon Group as part of its bankruptcy deal.
So unless someone else jumps in with a bigger offer - and they still might - John Connor and co might just be joining the Jigsaw ranks.
Joss Whedon, the ball is in your court. You'll need a little more than $10,000 this time, though.
