Keanu Reeves' technology-driven capers have been knocked off the top spot by Eddie Murphy's new flick, Life - a prison comedy co-starring Martin Lawrence - raking in an impressive $20.7 million in the Friday-to-Sunday period. The Universal Pictures film sets a new record for an April opening - last set by Lost In Space on April 3 last year with $20.5 million - though The Matrix still holds the coveted top spot in overall first weekend earnings with $27.6 million. The weekend's only new wide release, Life averaged a strong $7,975 from 2,594 screens. Murphy and Lawrence last teamed up for 1992's Boomerang, which opened to $13 million before soaring to a $70 million total.
