It's a big day for Hulk news. Hulk-sized, you could say. Mark Ruffalo's Twitter revelation about the future of the character in the Marvel universe was followed by a small but fascinating revelation from **The Incredible Hulk **director Louis Leterrier. It seems that Ruffalo was close to scoring the part four years earlier than he did, as the director explained in an interview with Empire.
"I've known Mark for quite a while," says Leterrier, taking up the story. "I met him on my Hulk a long time ago and it was funny - Marvel didn't go with him first time around."
Edward Norton, of course, won the gig and went on to make a suitably angsty Bruce Banner without ever quite nailing the few lighter moments afforded him by Leterrier's broody reboot. Then again, Marvel's game has upped several notches since then, to the benefit of a now smash-happy Hulk, so comparisons are hardly fair.
Strange as it is to think that the names of Edward Norton and Mark Ruffalo, two markedly different on-screen personas, might have appeared on the same shortlist, it does make us ponder other Norton movies that could be remade with added Ruffalo. Ruffalo's American History X, anyone?
