A biopic of the life of your standard computer geek wouldn't really be the stuff of cinematic thrills. It's all too rare that they get the girl and the inside of a darkened bedroom offers few opportunities for flashy photography. But the life of Atari creator Nolan Bushnell has attracted the attention of Leonardo DiCaprio, who will produce and star in a film of his rise to digital dominance.
People born after about 1985 may have no knowledge of Atari, but Bushnell is essentially the person we owe for the existence of modern gaming consoles. His Atari 2600 console brought arcade games into the home and the company's most famous game, Pong, is still played today – at the time it blew people's minds with its stunning graphical possibilities (straight edges and curves?!), but minds were far more combustible in those days.
The script has been written by Brian Hecker and Craig Sherman. No director is yet attached.
