Hanna-Barbera’s classic children’s adventure, Jonny Quest, is being written into a screenplay as we speak.
Warner Bros’ Dan Mazeau has been hired to transform the book onto the big screen after its huge success as first a book, and then a TV series in 1964. On producing duties are Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter whose adaptation of video game Hitman is released in October.
The “Quest” shows a young boy, accompanying his scientist father on thrilling escapades. Joining them are his adopted brother from Calcutta, pet bulldog and the government agent assigned to protect them. The original series was inspired by radio shows, comic strips and James Bond movies, but was also noted for its relative realism.
And even though the series aired only lasted one season, the reruns have been showing for two decades.
This is not the first attempt at bringing “Quest” to the cinema. In 1994 Tribeca Productions partnered with Richard Donner and Lauren Shuler Donner, but the project stalled in pre-production.
