You just can’t keep JJ Abrams from spinning a good mystery. The man loves magic, secrets and knows the value of some healthy hype. So while it seems he’s ready to surprise us all again, it should be no shock that he’s apparently whipped up a trailer for a secret new film called Super 8.
According to Drew at Hitfix, the new film might – heavy stress on the might, since Abrams is keeping things as tightly locked down as he can – be a sequel of some fashion to **Cloverfield **(which itself launched with a trailer before anyone knew it existed), though we doubt it’ll be a re-telling of the movie from the monster’s home movie camera point of view.
Drew’s sources point to the fact that there’s a locked canister containing reels of Iron Man 2 that projectionists can only open on Thursday afternoon, no doubt primarily to protect the secrets of the Marvel movie’s post-credit sting (that plan did not exactly work so well) and, if the whispers are true, a teaser for Super 8.
Abrams won’t be directing this one (just as he stayed a producer on Cloverfield), and there’s no solid confirmation that it’ll be anything to do with the monster mash. Neither is it the Abrams/Spielberg collaboration rumoured last week.
Hopefully once the new trailer is out in the US, Abrams and co will shove it online for everyone to see. Ladies and gentlemen, start your speculations...
