J.J. Abrams To Produce Heist Drama

Hollywood wunderkind J.J. Abrams is a man of many parts: he directs, writes screenplays, composes scores, orchestrates fiendishly subtle viral marketing campaigns and no doubt bakes his own bread too.

Today though Abrams is wearing his hat marked 'producer', with news that his Bad Robot production company will bring the tightrope tale of the world's biggest ever heist to the screen - a $100 million euro diamond robbery that took place beneath the supposedly impenetrable Antwerp Diamond Centre in 2003.

Abrams has optioned the rights from a yet-to-published *Wired *magazine article that investigates the Italian gang behind the heist. The robbery was described at the time as 'the perfect crime", although flaws did emerge when gangleader Leonardo Notarbartolo was arrested and sentenced to ten years in jail. He was released from Belgium prison this week.

Next up on the Bad Robot slate is, of course, Star Trek, followed by the double-entendred Harrison Ford/Rachel McAdams double-header Morning Glory, set in the bitchy world of morning television. More on the heist flick as we get it...
