If it feels like every second film currently swimming through the Hollywood development river is based on a graphic novel, that’s because it is. And now there’s another one to add to the list, as Saw co-creator and director James Wan has signed on to direct an adaptation of Scott O Brown and Ferran Xalabarder’s Nightfall.

The title even ticks another current favourite box: vampires, since it boasts a fairly simple premise where a man is sent to a prison run by the fanged fiends.

“The minute I heard the concept, I was in," Wan tells Deadline. “Reading the graphic novel cemented that. Like Saw, it’s a simple concept that, if executed properly, will be so cool." Big if...

Wan, of course, has done more than just put Saw out into the world – he’s also responsible for the likes of Death Sentence and Dead Silence, and his latest, Insidious. Which isn’t a cheery tale of young love, but follows a family trying to stop evil spirits from snatching their comatose child away to another realm. So he should get the dark tone right, but how about the rest? Excited at the idea?
