A future school thriller

School might be out for summer – but if production company Intrepid Pictures has their way, it might also be out for blood.

Intrepid has picked up Dave Kalstein’s novel Prodigy and taken the unusual (although admittedly not unheard of) step of hiring the author to pen the script. Prodigy is set in the near future and posits an elite prep school that promises to turn teens into geniuses thanks to a drug and diet plan. The fees are high and the stakes get higher when several alumni show up dead. The only person who can solve the mystery is the school’s high-flyer, a student from a poor background who’s attending the school on a scholarship. What he finds leads him to suspect a conspiracy…

"Teenagers expect a lot more from films today," Kalstein told The Hollywood Reporter. "Intrepid saw that this is not just another teen movie. It's telling a very adult story about young people."
