In probably the least surprising news of this or any other day, Inglourious Basterds, the new Quentin Tarantino film, is set to screen in competition at Cannes this year, some three months ahead of its projected August release.
Why unsurprising? Well, the French are Tarantino-philes, having always shown a huge degree of love for his work, and in fact the man himself actually chaired the Cannes jury just a few short years ago. Pulp Fiction also won the Palme d'Or, and Kill Bill, Death Proof and Reservoir Dogs all screened there out of competition.
The line-up will be officially announced for the Festival on April 23, with the Festival running from May 13-24. Empire will be there covering the whole thing, never fear.
