In an entirely unsurprising development, Angela's Ashes author Frank McCourt has had his bestselling memoir Teacher Man optioned as a film.
The people responsible are Howard and Karen Baldwin, who you might remember are trying to get another book – Atlas Shrugged – into production with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt starring. Though we’re sure the new parents are probably a little busy changing nappies.
Ron Bass, who has a little experience with the teacher genre thanks to 1995’s Dangerous Minds, will script. The plot will loosely follow the book, which charts McCourt’s 30-year career as an English teacher in New York’s public school system.
Howard Baldwin apparently became interested in the idea because his mother was a teacher. That, and a little advantage called brand awareness… “This is a hugely popular property with a massive built-in audience," he told Variety.
The next instalment of McCourt's life story carries the title I Sold Loads Of Books And Movie Options And Now I’m Fecking Rich*
